Battery Exchange Program for June 19, 2007 Voluntary Recall
This recall affects only certain battery packs shipped from May 2003 through July 2003 as a primary or backup battery pack with Gateway notebook PCs with model numbers 400VTX and 450ROG. Not every Gateway notebook with those model numbers shipped with a battery pack affected by the recall. To check if your battery is affected, follow these steps.
Step 1: Remove Your Battery
a. Close the LCD panel. (Note: If you are using an optional port replicator, disconnect it from the notebook.)
b. If your notebook is on and connected to AC power, or if it has a charged multi-bay battery installed, skip to Step 1d below. If not, and your notebook is on, is not plugged into an AC outlet, or does not have a charged multi-bay battery installed, save any open files, shut down Windows® and turn off the notebook.
c. Turn your notebook over so that the bottom faces up.
d. If the notebook is equipped with a battery lock, slide it to the unlocked position.
e. Slide open the battery release latch, and then slide the battery from the bay
Step 2: Find Your Battery Part Number
Your battery may differ slightly from the one pictured here, but its barcode label will be similar. Look at the label to locate your battery part number.
Step 3: Submit an Exchange Request
If your battery pack does not bear a 6500760 or 6500761 part number, your battery is not affected; you may return it to your notebook by reversing the removal steps above. For additional instructions on putting your battery back in, select your notebook type from our Support Documents page and then click FAQs.
If your battery pack bears a 6500760 or 6500761 part number, click the link below. After you complete the request, allow up to 48 hours to receive an e-mail confirmation of your exchange order. Do not put the battery back into your notebook. You may plug in your AC adapter to power your notebook. Look below for additional information.
